Can you believe that almost 40% of bearings never live to their engineered life cycle and the main reason is bad lubrication practices? Grease reduces the friction levels of bearings, and pay attention to avoid these common mistakes below when greasing bearings, you can predict the right time to grease, know how much grease to apply, and extend bearings's useful life.
1. Lubricating based on TIME instead of CONDITION
It seems to be reasonable to lubricate bearings at regular intervals, however, scheduled maintenance at regular period, without considering bearings condition, may lead to negative results. In fact, as long as the lubricant is performing well, there is no need to change it, or add more.
2.Adding too much, or not enough grease.
Too much grease builds pressure, pushing the rolling elements through the fluid film and against the outer race, which may lead to temperature raise inside the bearings. Not enough grease has the same effect on shortening bearings service life.
